In a landmark collaboration set to propel the Nigerian maritime sector forward, Compass Survey Limited, a leader in survey and positioning services for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, has signed a strategic contract with the UK-based SeaBot Maritime. This partnership will provide advanced technical consultancy and workforce training in uncrewed surface vessel, USV operations.
The agreement aims to build the capacity of Compass Survey to undertake complex USV operations, elevating its capabilities to meet international standards. SeaBot Maritime, known for its expertise in uncrewed systems and recognized by the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency, MCA, will provide specialized training and consultancy services tailored to Nigeria’s unique maritime needs.
The collaboration is expected to usher in a new era of innovation in Nigeria’s maritime industry, with a focus on equipping local talent with the expertise needed for autonomous vessel operations. This partnership not only enhances Compass Survey’s technical abilities but also strengthens Nigeria’s overall maritime capacity. Gordon Meadow, CEO of SeaBot Maritime, expressed optimism about the venture, saying:
“Our partnership with Compass Survey is a key step in the evolution of Nigeria’s maritime workforce. Through our cutting-edge training programs, we will be transferring essential skills that will position Nigeria as a leader in USV operations across Sub-Saharan Africa.”
At the core of the partnership is a commitment to creating a skilled, forward-thinking workforce. SeaBot Maritime will deliver hands-on, practical training programs, equipping Compass Survey’s personnel with the knowledge to handle modern uncrewed systems confidently.
SeaBot’s role also extends beyond training; its technical consultancy will help Compass Survey develop a comprehensive operational strategy, enabling the company to execute highly complex USV missions and significantly enhance their competitiveness in the region.
For Joshua Oriero, Project Manager at Compass Survey, this collaboration represents a transformative milestone for both the company and Nigeria’s maritime industry:
“By working with SeaBot Maritime, we are setting new standards in operational excellence. This partnership not only strengthens our position in the Nigerian market but also enables us to extend our reach across Sub-Saharan Africa. We are excited about the future and the positive impact this will have on the region’s maritime industry.”
With this agreement, Compass Survey is set to revolutionize Nigeria’s approach to uncrewed vessel operations, aligning itself with global best practices while contributing to the country’s economic growth and maritime safety.
