Google has announced the opening of applications for the 2025 cohort of its Google for Startups Accelerator: Africa programme, calling on early-stage technology startups across the continent to apply for the three-month hybrid initiative.
The accelerator is part of Google’s broader global initiative aimed at supporting high-potential startups from Seed to Series A stages with the tools, mentorship, and technical resources necessary to scale sustainable, impactful businesses.
In a statement announcing the call for applications, Google said the programme is designed to address the unique technical challenges African startups face, offering a mix of virtual and in-person mentorship, workshops, and project-based learning sessions.
Head of Startups Ecosystem, Africa at Google, Folarin Aiyegbusi, said: “This accelerator reflects Google’s ongoing commitment to supporting innovation and entrepreneurship in Africa.
“Through this programme, we aim to provide high-potential African startups with the resources, mentorship, and network they need to grow and thrive in today’s digital economy.”
Each selected startup will join a cohort of 10 to 15 companies, participating in tailored one-on-one mentorship, group learning sessions, and strategic technical sprints designed to drive growth and overcome product and engineering challenges.
The accelerator offers equity-free support, and eligible startups will benefit from up to $350,000 in Google Cloud credits, exclusive deep dives into product design, customer acquisition, and leadership development, early access to new Google technologies, strategic business and product support, and 30 days of free Cloud TPU access to boost machine learning research.
Aiyegbusi added: “We understand the unique challenges startups face on the continent.
“By connecting them with Google engineers, product managers, and industry leaders, we’re giving them the technical guidance and tools that can make a real difference in their growth trajectory.”
To qualify, startups must be at the Seed to Series A funding stage, demonstrate measurable market traction, and be building scalable tech-driven solutions—particularly those using artificial intelligence and machine learning. A committed technical team lead, such as a CTO, must also be available to fully engage in the program.
Google emphasized its commitment to diversity and inclusion in the startup ecosystem.
“We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive accelerator class,” the company stated. “That’s why we encourage applications from all qualified startups across Africa, regardless of their background or location.”
Applications are open now and will close on May 9, 2025. The programme will kick off in June, culminating in a Demo Day and Graduation event in August 2025.
